I think I need to just go ahead and post this, or else I'll be fiddling with it and modifying it for the next 6 months. And so, please enjoy..

Amy's 2008 Ironman Lake Placid race report.

Great report Amy. The very last page though has the 2007 in the heading. The video was interesting, not least because you got a feel for why James and Desiree failed, but also how hard it must have been for all the Texan age groupers in the wet and relative cold!

Also, its mind boggling how Hilary Biscane gets out the front, she really has an odd run style for a pro!

Congratulations, thats really a fantastic race and result! See you at some sprints in 2009, I love sprints, go fast or go home!

Thanks for the heads up on the edit. I thought I caught them all, but I'm still finding typos and whatnot. :)

And yeah, it was strange weather for those of us who NEVER get that kind of weather. The Shiner ride a couple years ago is the closest we ever get.

OK, I haven't read it yet, haven't savoured it yet. But I won't be waiting for the paperback to come out!

Before I get to the text, I just wanted to say what a fantastic Finishers photo! Awesome.

Really I should thank YOU Amy for being a huge influence and motivator for me not only during training for CdA but during CdA! You are one very special athlete and friend. I really enjoyed your report but mostly I've enjoyed the pleasure of knowing you and Matt. I am thrilled that you (& Matt) had such awesome results, you were well prepared and executed your plans beautifully! Maybe 2010 we'll be at the same Ironman...I would love that.

wow. what an incredible race you had! Thanks for another wonderful race report, that had me laughing out loud (HARD) at times!

I got a call that my new triathlon bike is in when I was reading your cycling part, you're good luck!

I wish I had known how (if there was an external way) to send you in-event messages at the Ford Inspiration thing! I didn't seem to see a link on the IronmanLive site for that.

I am just thrilled that you had such a great time, and performed so well. Way to go! (and you've provided me with TONS of inspiration for my Palo Duro run!)

The message sending thing was only on-site.. there was a booth you had to go in to write a message. I imagine if they let you do it online, the number of messages for each athlete would be overwhelming!

And thank you. I like that we have a little community here that can all inspire each other with our crazy antics!

but, I had to stop and reply because I started my period the day before my first IM and most of my race report had to include way too much TMI about it so I decided not to post it :)!! Maybe I should post it,but I don't think that it will be helpful to anyone. It's just something women have to deal with and we do what we have to do...even if it happens to be during an Ironman race :)! It did suck!!

I can't wait to read the rest of your rr later this evening. Congrats again!!

Yay, I (finally) got to finish reading your report!! There is so much that I would like to comment (or more like...pick your brain) about, but don't know where to start.

I felt like such a poser at Ironman as well so I'd like to know how to overcome that feeling :)!! You are very impressive, inspirational, and an amazing Ironman athlete!

P.S. I'm glad we could help keep you company for a small part of your training.

Awesome RR.

The part, "I was eerily calm as I sat there treading water. I realized at this point how very different Lake Placid was going to be from CdA. Nothing had felt the same so far; not the days leading up to the event, not the morning of, and not the panic at the swim start. I felt very .. I wouldn't say relaxed. Resigned, maybe. Matt says he thinks I was more ready than resigned, so we'll go with "ready"." reminded me exactly of CdA last year.

You were very strong this year and you deserve to bask in your awesomeness! You're starting to make this Ironman thing look easy. : ) WOOOOOO HOOOOOO AMY!

When're you gonna come do one with us, Robyn? Didn't you see how I said the swim wasn't so bad? I bet if I get Dave to do it, you'll have to do it, too, or you'll feel left out.

Thank you, Robyn. For the text messages, the voicemails, taking care of our home, the training, and everything else. You're an amazing friend, and I'm very lucky to have you.

Wow. Just...wow! I'm so terribly, completely impressed. You are one hell of an athlete. Congratulations!

You're awesome! ;) I love your finishing photo.

Oh, by the way, I did a half Ironman on my period. So while I'm glad you didn't have to and I can't speak to a full while having it, I can tell you, it really didn't bother me one way or the other. (And for the record, I think Andrea has done a full with one because I came to her freaking the week of the race when I realized what was going to happen). And as it happens, that's the last period I've had in the past year. I got pregnant a couple weeks later :)

Thank you! Most of the time I still feel like that chick who started wheezing after one lap around the track, but I really let go of that for a few hours that day. :)

I think I can wrap my mind around a half while on my period. But 14 hours .. and the things I DID find on google weren't helpful, talking about pros and streaks down the backs of their legs and whatnot.. ack. Glad it worked out well for you, though, and that I didn't have to deal with it.

I have your voicemails saved. I made everyone else at the table where we were having a beer listen to them, because I was laughing so hard. It was like a Leslie-email in voicemail form! And it made me feel very loved, which was a nice feeling after being in the pouring rain all day. THANK you, for the voicemails, the pre-race shindig, and for being such a good friend all the time.

Wow! I felt like I was there with you..except my Ironman "race" just took 2 hours to complete/READ. And I don't have grit in my shorts or a numb toe.... So I am completely ready to do an Ironman it looks like! Except for that training part....If only it were as easy as reading your race reports. I loved every moment and I continue to be inspired. I love the look of pure joy and strength in you.

Now I really should get back to that training thang...thanks for helping me procrastinate! :)
